Samsung is the top-selling smartphone in 2025, with these selling more than any other competitor

The best-selling phones of 2025 so far have been revealed and while Android is holding its place, Samsung is falling behind.
Counterpoint Research this week published a list of the best-selling phones globally in Q1 2025, and it comes as no surprise that one of Apple’s latest iPhones tops the list.
The iPhone 16 trio make up the top three spots, with the base iPhone 16 at number one with iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pro to follow.
Samsung, unsurprisingly, had the top-selling Android phone of 2025 so far, but it wasn’t in its flagship as was the case this time last year.
Rather, the $199 Galaxy A16 was the best-selling Android phone of 2025 to date, with Galaxy A06 following closely behind, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra directly behind that.

POSITIVE

The 2025 top-selling smartphones have been announced thus far, with Samsung lagging behind and Android maintaining its position.

One of Apple’s most recent iPhones is unsurprisingly at the top of the list of the best-selling phones worldwide in Q1 2025, according to a list released this week by Counterpoint Research. The iPhone 16 trio occupy the top three positions, with the base model ranking first and the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pro following. Compared to last year, this is a bit of a shuffle because the iPhone 15 Pro Max was the top model at this time.

Android smartphones make up the remainder of the list, with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 Plus coming in at number four and ten, respectively.

Unsurprisingly, Samsung did not have the top-selling Android phone of 2025 in its flagship, unlike this time last year. Instead, the Galaxy S25 Ultra came right behind the $199 Galaxy A16, which was the best-selling Android phone of 2025 thus far. The Galaxy A06 was not far behind. With the Redmi 14C 4G ranking eighth, ahead of the Galaxy A55 and iPhone 16 Plus, Redmi is the only brand on this list besides Apple and Samsung.

As previously stated, this demonstrates Samsung’s decline.

In comparison to the previous year, the company saw fewer high-end devices on the list and lost one of its top 10 spots to Redmi. In Q1 2024, the Galaxy S24 Ultra was the most popular device, and the Galaxy S24 also made the top 10. This time, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is lower on the list, and none of the other Galaxy S25 devices were included. In comparison to the previous year, Counterpoint reports that “the low-end (<$100) smartphones in the top 10 saw an increase in their contribution.". One reason for this is that Samsung's Galaxy S25 series had a shorter sales period in Q1 of this year than the Galaxy S24, but that doesn't alter the fact that Redmi is vying for a Samsung slot.
