Saimon Oliveira had a major malfunction at the scale ahead of UFC Rio.
His opponent Luan Lacerda successfully made weight at 136 pounds.
It was only good news for the more famous Oliveira on the card as Charles Oliveira successfully made weight for his main event clash with Mateusz Gamrot.
In the co-main event, bantamweight contenders Deiveson Figueiredo and Montel Jackson both hit the mark at 136 pounds.
The bout is expected to proceed at a catchweight with a purse penalty for Oliveira still to be determined
Prior to UFC Rio, Saimon Oliveira experienced a serious malfunction at the scale.
At Saturday’s event in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian bantamweight weighed 144 pounds, eight pounds over the 135-pound limit, even with a one-pound allowance for a non-title fight. At 136 pounds, his opponent Luan Lacerda was able to make weight.
The fact that Charles Oliveira made weight for his main event matchup with Mateusz Gamrot was only good news for the more well-known Oliveira on the circuit. Both Gamrot, who fills in for Rafael Fiziev due to injury, and “Do Bronx” weighed 156 pounds.
Bantamweight competitors Montel Jackson and Deiveson Figueiredo both weighed 136 pounds in the co-main event.
The Oliveira v. The matchup will be a catchweight matchup. When Oliveira arrives at the arena on Saturday, he will give Lacerda half of his purse and be limited to a weight of 155 pounds, according to Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting.
The weigh-ins were even more dramatic because Valter Walker chose to weigh in even though Mohammed Usman’s medical problems forced him to postpone his fight. As Walker weighed in, he became enraged and yelled in Portuguese that “this motherf*cker ran” after their altercation.

In his bantamweight match against Luan Lacerda, Simon Oliveira weighed eight pounds over the weight limit. Oliveira’s purse penalty has not yet been decided, but the fight is anticipated to start at a catchweight.
