First of all, thank you for the amazing support we’ve been receiving.
After a very strong start in the first round, things quickly started fading and we couldn’t really recover from the shots in and after the second round.
I made the call to stop the fight after the fourth round.
I take full responsibility for that decision and it was the right call to make for me in the moment.
I’ve been with Reinier for basically his whole career and saw too many signs that made me step in.
Supporters, admirers, and friends.
I usually don’t write about personal matters on this site, but I feel like I should give everyone who has supported us a brief explanation. Let me start by saying thank you for all of the wonderful support we have been getting. This year has been extremely hectic thus far.
Things didn’t go as planned last night. We had a great start in the first round, but things soon started to wane, and we were unable to fully recover from the shots in and after the second round. After the fourth round, I called it quits. I accept full responsibility for that choice, which at the time was the right one for me. I never wanted to make that choice, but I suppose you have to sometimes.
Along with coaching, I also have a responsibility to watch out for my fighter’s health. Having been with Reinier for nearly his entire career, I saw too many indicators to ignore. Had I done nothing, he would have carried on the altercation. I chose to call it a day and head home as healthily as possible rather than take the chance of needless harm. Remain alive to face another day.
If someone’s health is at stake, I don’t give a damn about pleasing other people. Between “being tough” and taking care of your health, there is a fine line. It can be cruel in this sport. Since these men give up a lot of their lives both inside and outside of the cage, unnecessary harm should be prevented. The majority of people forget that they are also human.
There were no justifications for this defeat; we were aware of our goals. Although we are not pleased with this performance, we will return next year after recovering and assessing a few things. The year has been fantastic overall, and I am grateful for all of life’s highs and lows.
You have my admiration, brother @deriddermma. We have made great progress.
I appreciate your continued support and hope you all have a great day.
All the love.
Harun is the coach.
