MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ — According to the Arizona Department of Agriculture, avian flu has been detected in poultry at a commercial farm in Maricopa County.

Samples were collected and sent to labs for analysis after the birds reportedly started exhibiting symptoms of avian influenza last week. The avian flu was confirmed to be positive on Tuesday.

In this instance, the impacted poultry farm—which the company itself confirmed was Hickman’s Family Farms—has been placed under quarantine, and steps were apparently taken promptly to eradicate the virus.

According to reports, this is the second commercial farm in Maricopa County with poultry that has tested positive this month. The second location’s name has not been verified by ABC15.

ABC15 covered Hickman’s avian flu cases earlier this year. During that time, the farm reported that the virus had caused the loss of over a million egg-laying hens (20 percent of its flock) at one operation.
