PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia police found human remains Saturday in their search for a 23-year-old woman who disappeared from her nursing home job about two weeks ago.
Police held a news conference Saturday to give an update on the disappearance of Kada Scott and released a statement saying investigators “recovered human remains believed to be” hers.
He said the remains, believed to be the body of a woman, were found in a shallow grave.
“We are not going to confirm, at this point, that it is Kada Scott because that has to be done by the medical examiner’s office,” he said.
In the Scott case, King’s bail has been set at $2.5 million.
The search for a 23-year-old woman who vanished from her nursing home job approximately two weeks ago resulted in the discovery of human remains on Saturday, according to the Associated Press.
During a press conference on Saturday, police provided an update on Kada Scott’s disappearance and said that they had “recovered human remains believed to be” hers. However, Philadelphia Police Department deputy commissioner John Stanford refrained from confirming that the remains discovered in a forested area behind an abandoned school were those of Scott.
According to Stanford, police had previously searched the area before receiving an anonymous tip. The remains, he said, were discovered in a shallow grave and were thought to be those of a woman. The individual seemed to have been dead for a few days, he continued.
“At this time, we will not verify that it is Kada Scott, as the medical examiner’s office is responsible for doing that,” he stated. “A lot more work needs to be done. “”.
Scott declined to respond to specific questions, citing an ongoing investigation, but Stanford stated that investigators were in contact with Scott’s family regarding the developments.
On Sunday, police spokeswoman Tanya Little stated that there were no updates available from the department. The medical examiner’s office did not immediately return a message left on Sunday.
The case has raised issues with the legal system.
Keon King, 21, has been taken into custody and charged with kidnapping, stalking, and other offenses related to Scott’s disappearance. He was charged in a related case earlier this year but was later released.
King has been granted $2 to $5 million bail in the Scott case. He is still being held, and next month he will have a preliminary hearing. A message requesting comment from his defense lawyer was not answered.
