Stockton, Gunner, leaves his mark.

Perhaps the Bulldogs already have a good quarterback on their roster, so why didn’t Georgia use the transfer portal to try to acquire a big-name quarterback? Gunner Stockton’s downfield passing skills were lacking in the Bulldogs’ season-opening wins over overmatched opponents. But on Saturday, when his team most needed him, he delivered some strikes in a hostile environment. The redshirt junior proved he had the fortitude to keep the Bulldogs afloat against elite competition late last season when he filled in for the injured Carson Beck. Nevertheless, it was still unclear if the Georgia native could carry a team to massive success. With a strong performance against the Volunteers on the main stage, Stockton provided a definitive response to those queries.

based on the numbers.

This was Georgia’s first road comeback victory under Kirby Smart, scoring more than 14 points.

Georgia now has the same number of consecutive 3-0 season starts as Alabama (2004–14).

Now, when scoring at least 35 points, UGA has won 70 straight games.

In overtime games, the Bulldogs have a 3-0 record in the last two seasons.

Only twice in the history of the series did both teams score 38 points or more.

With four or more passing touchdowns and one or more rushing touchdowns against a ranked opponent, Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar became the first Vols player in the past 30 years to do so, aside from Peyton Manning.

This victory for Georgia was remarkable, exciting, and unforgettable. It also highlighted the Bulldogs’ flaws. UGA’s defense needs to work on a few things before September, as they have a bye week coming up. 27 confrontation with No. 19. Alabama. Since losing to Florida State in Week 1, the Crimson Tide’s offense has been outstanding for the last two weeks. Georgia must improve defensively in every way if it hopes to prevent Alabama from using Tennessee’s blueprint to create explosive plays. After gaining 547 yards in a victory over Florida the previous season, the Crimson Tide will be looking to replicate that feat this year.

A thrilling victory for Georgia.

Tennessee 41, Georgia 44 in overtime.

No. 6 After a strong fourth-quarter comeback, Georgia prevailed in overtime to defeat No. In front of a boisterous crowd at Neyland Stadium on Saturday, 15 Tennessee. In the last seconds of regulation, the Volunteers had a chance to win it, but Max Gilbert’s 43-yard field goal attempt missed to the right, giving the Bulldogs a second chance.

Georgia used a 21-yard rush from Nate Frazier to set itself up for the game-winning score after holding Tennessee to a field goal in the first series of overtime. Josh McCray then jumped in from a yard out to seal the victory. The Bulldogs’ winning streak against Tennessee was extended to nine games as a result.

In his first SEC game, Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar threw four touchdowns to give the Volunteers an early 21-7 lead. However, in his first road start, Gunner Stockton of Georgia stepped up to the plate and matched him.

In the final three minutes, Georgia was down 38-30 and faced a fourth-and-six on Tennessee’s 28-yard line. Stockton’s perfectly thrown deep ball to London Humphreys resulted in a touchdown, bringing UGA within 38-36, but a turnover on downs would have forced Georgia into a corner.

A second-period conversion gave the Bulldogs a new lease on life and tied the game. With no interceptions, Stockton completed 23 of 31 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns. Along with calling 38 yards on the ground, he also scored a touchdown while running.

Both of Tennessee’s losses have come against Georgia, making them 21-2 at home since 2022.

Tennessee made a fantastic drive to set itself up for a field goal that could win the game. Max Gilbert gave Georgia second life, though, with a 42-yard attempt that went wide in the closing seconds. The Volunteers were prepared to celebrate a historic victory, as was their nearly 102,000-strong crowd. Instead, they travel to Knoxville for overtime.

Driving in Georgia.

Tennessee 38, Georgia 30 in the late 4Q.

With three timeouts remaining and more than three minutes remaining, Georgia is driving the football deep into Tennessee territory. The Bulldogs require both a 2-point conversion and a touchdown. The two-minute and three-minute timeouts, however, would give them plenty of time to possibly get the football back for a game-winning touchdown if they scored points early enough. Is the Tennessee defense planning any more significant plays?

Important turnover is forced by Tennessee.

No, mid-4Q. 38, No. 15 Tennessee. 6. Georgia 30.

In addition, Tennessee’s defense played a role in the fourth quarter. The Vols have performed significantly better in the second half at restricting the run and applying pressure to Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton after being forced off the ball in the third quarter. Perhaps the game-winning play was made by Tennessee’s defensive front. Josh Josephs, a defender for the Vols, came screaming off the edge and punched the ball out of Stockton’s hands as he dropped back to pass on third-and-long in Tennessee territory. The fumble was intercepted by Tennessee defensive lineman Bryson Eason, who put his team in scoring position right away.

Tennessee was put behind bars by a false start, but the Vols managed to gain enough yardage to set up kicker Max Gilbert for a 48-yard field goal. Although it’s still a one-possession game, Tennessee has the advantage as the clock is ticking down.

It’s Aguilar fighting back.

Initial 4Q: No. 15 Tennessee 35, No. 6 Georgia 30.

Aguilar might be a bookend quarterback. After a fantastic first quarter, he went silent in the middle of the game, but in the fourth quarter against Georgia, he looked like a superstar. With Tennessee’s back against the wall, he is making some much-needed throws. With 11:02 remaining, Aguilar just hooked up with a wide-open Braylon Staley for a 32-yard touchdown.

Aguilar detected Staley easily and put plenty of air under the ball after he ran a nice route to gain plenty of space in Georgia’s secondary. Passing for 351 yards and four touchdowns, Aguilar has now surpassed Georgia for the most yards by a Tennessee quarterback since 2008.

Georgia regains the lead.

First 4Q: No. Six Georgia 30, No. Tennessee 28 (15).

The defense of Tennessee flexed but did not break. Georgia responded with an outstanding drive of its own and appeared to be just a few plays away from scoring a huge touchdown after the Vols connected with wide receiver Chris Brazzell II for a 56-yard touchdown. To get to Tennessee’s 8-yard line, quarterback Gunner Stockton made a 31-yard pass to wide receiver London Humphreys.

However, the Vols buckled up there. They forced a field goal by pressing quarterback Gunner Stockton on a third-down pass attempt and were rewarded with a tackle for loss on a rush attempt. The Bulldogs took a 24-yard boot from kicker Peyton Woodring in the fourth quarter, but Tennessee likely feels good about giving up a touchdown in that circumstance.

The offense in Tennessee comes alive.

End 3Q: Certainly not. 15. Tennessee 28, No. 26 Georgia 6.

The YOLO ball does work sometimes. Joey Aguilar, quarterback for the Vols, isn’t scared to throw a pass. On occasion, it pays off. Aguilar, who was in dire need of a spark, simply threw a 50-50 ball deep to Chris Brazzell II, a wide receiver, who pushed the pass away from defensive back Daniel Harris Jr. and ran into the end zone for a touchdown that was 56 yards long.

Reminiscent of former Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt’s performance in Tennessee’s 2022 victory over Alabama, Brazzell is having the game of his life. In addition to receiving all three of Aguilar’s touchdown passes, he now has five receptions for 162 yards after that touchdown catch.

After dozing off for two quarters in the middle, Tennessee is prepared to turn this into a game once more. Georgia will have the ball when the fourth quarter starts.

The defense of Georgia comes through once more.

Late 3Q: Not at all. No. 6 Georgia 27. 15 Tennessee 21.

The defense of Georgia is fierce. The Bulldogs have totally stymied the Vols’ explosive offense in the last two quarters of play since letting Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar tear them up in the fourth quarter. UGA now has possession on Tennessee’s 37-yard line after Georgia defensive back KJ Bolden just made the Bulldogs their second interception of the game.

A 48-yard field goal from kicker Peyton Woodring allowed the Bulldogs to turn the interception into immediate offense, even though they would have preferred to increase their lead to two scores. Since the first quarter, Georgia’s defense has prevented Tennessee from going over the 50-yard line.

3Q late: No. 6. Georgia 24, No. Tennessee 21 (15).

For Tennessee, the wheels are beginning to come off. The Vols responded with a swift three-and-out on their first possession of the third quarter after Georgia ran the ball down Tennessee’s throat in a dominating 14-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that opened the second half. After a holding call on first down, they were forced to punt before they could even return to the original line of scrimmage, putting them behind the chains early. When play resumes, Georgia will now have the ball on its own 41-yard line in a favorable field position.

Mid 3Q: Certainly not. No. 6 Georgia 24. 15 Tennessee 21. .

At the line of scrimmage, Georgia is beginning to push Tennessee around. In order to start the second half off strongly, the Bulldogs made the decision to play bully ball. With a 1-yard touchdown run from Josh McCray, they forced a 14-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that saved 7:41 and gave Georgia its first lead of the game. Georgia had 14 plays during that drive, 13 of which were runs. Chauncey Bowens was the only running back to make a passing play.

Will Georgia be able to retaliate?

Georgia’s first-quarter deficit against Tennessee was 21-7, its largest since 2009. However, the Bulldogs began to gain some momentum with an 10-0 second quarter. Their successful wide receiver screen game and ability to silence Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar helped them cut Tennessee’s lead to four points at the half. Georgia can start the second half with the ball and have a chance to take the game’s first lead.

At the half, Tennessee holds the lead.

Half: No. No. 15 Tennessee 21. 6 Georgia 17.

Even though Tennessee led 21–17 at the half, it seems like the Bulldogs are gaining ground after 30 minutes of play. After a slow start, Georgia’s defense began to dominate the field, and a clear-cut strategy based on quick screens and inventive running helped quarterback Gunner Stockton settle in.

In the second quarter, Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar only completed two of his eight passes for a total of 16 yards, after dazzling by completing all 14 of his first-quarter passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, he ended Tennessee’s two-minute drill with an interception near the end of the first half.

In contrast, Georgia’s offense moved the ball in the second frame by exploiting a thin and mainly inexperienced Tennessee secondary. Georgia had a free conversion on third-and-five after two pass interference calls on Tennessee prolonged the Bulldogs’ 14-play, 88-yard field goal drive. Although the Vols managed to get a Hail Mary attempt off as the clock reached double zeroes in the first half, Tennessee also had another defensive holding call near the end of the first half that disqualified a possible interception.

The second half will begin with the Bulldogs receiving the ball.

Late 2Q: Definitely not. 15, Tennessee 21, No. 6 Georgia 17.

A drive of more than 80 yards that took more than six minutes off the clock gave Georgia the appearance that it would tie the game, but Tennessee’s defense tensed up in the red zone and forced kicker Peyton Woodring to make a short field attempt. Aguilar accomplishes a unique achievement.

According to ESPN, Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar made history by completing all 14 of his pass attempts in the first quarter, making him the first quarterback to do so in 20 seasons. As Tennessee jumped out to an early 21-7 lead over the first frame, its biggest lead against Georgia since 2009, Aguilar was on point. A 72-yard pass to wide receiver Chris Brazzell II was one of two of those completions that resulted in touchdowns. With Georgia’s defense settling in, Aguilar has somewhat slowed down. In the second quarter, he has only completed two of his five pass attempts for 16 yards.

One can engage in a defensive battle at any time. Tennessee’s special teams had great punt coverage, which backed Georgia up to its own 4-yard line. To gain some space, the Bulldogs successfully used wide receiver screens; however, any offensive momentum was halted by an unwarranted roughness penalty from wide receiver Colbie Young. Gunner Stockton was cut down short of the line to gain on third-and-two after attempting to run for a first-down.

Georgia’s defense plays a role.

Preliminary 2Q: No. 15 Tennessee 21, No. 6 Georgia 14. .

For the first time during the game, Georgia’s defense made a significant stop. After Zachariah Branch and quarterback Gunner Stockton connected for a touchdown to cut Tennessee’s lead to one possession, the Bulldog defense stopped Joey Aguilar and Tennessee before they could get to midfield. The first two incomplete passes that Aguilar threw were behind wide receiver Mike Matthews on third-and-seven.

The Bulldogs had some difficult field position on their second drive of the second quarter thanks to punter Jackson Ross’ fourth-and-7 boot, which traveled 57 yards before being downed at Georgia’s 4-yard line.

On third-and-seven in Tennessee territory, Georgia just made the ideal call. After the Vols attempted to reach quarterback Gunner Stockton with a blitz, the Bulldogs chose to screen quick wide receiver Zachariah Branch. In the second quarter, just eight seconds after Tennessee’s deep safety made a poor angle, Branch took off for a long touchdown. It will be interesting to see if Georgia keeps working the perimeter while giving Stockton easy throws to gain momentum because Tennessee is applying a lot of pressure.

End 1Q: Not at all. 15, Tennessee 21, No. 6 Georgia 7.

In Knoxville, after one quarter of play, everything is Tennessee so far. The Vols then scored a touchdown in each of their three possessions during the first 15 minutes of play, extending their run of scoring on their opening drive against Georgia to five games.

In his first start in the SEC, Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar appeared to be in the zone. After rushing for a four-yard touchdown on a quarterback keeper, he broke the scoring seal. A few offensive plays later, he connected with wide receiver Chris Brazzell II for a 72-yard touchdown. Brazzell and Aguilar combined for two aerial touchdowns during the first quarter. Aguilar gained 213 yards on all 14 of his first-quarter pass attempts.

Following a strong start and a touchdown on the first drive, Georgia’s offensive options were largely restricted. On script, quarterback Gunner Stockton appeared at ease, but Tennessee has begun applying pressure that has caused the comparatively inexperienced starter to lose rhythm. At the start of the second quarter, the Bulldogs will have the ball in Tennessee territory.

Tennessee has a strong offensive line. Joey Aguilar, the quarterback, has made an early impact with his poised and controlled performance in his first SEC start, helping the Vols score on all three of their offensive drives against Georgia. His second touchdown pass of the day came when he landed a flawless pass to wide receiver Chris Brazzell II. It seems that this morning, neither defense was able to get off the bus. However, Georgia’s and Tennessee’s offenses have unquestionably arrived. The Vols not only scored on the first drive, which Josh Heupel has done in each of his five games against Georgia, but they also scored a huge touchdown of their own in response to Georgia’s touchdown. On the second scrimmage play, wide receiver Chris Brazzell II was thrown a deep pass by quarterback Joey Aguilar. Brazzell II made a nice adjustment with a Georgia defensive back draped over him and caught the ball out of the air. Brazzell then maintained his composure and ran into the end zone to complete the 72-yard touchdown catch.

After just two drives, Aguilar has already accumulated 134 yards and one touchdown on six passes for Tennessee.

Tennessee got an early advantage. Thanks to some excellent passing from quarterback Joey Aguilar and strategic looks in the run game, Tennessee’s offense got off to a lightning-fast start and kept Georgia’s defense on its heels, as it has done so many times this season. Aguilar finished the drive by crashing into the end zone from four yards out on a quarterback keeper after completing all five of his pass attempts for 62 yards.

On that drive, the offensive staff from Tennessee did a fantastic job of scheming receivers open. After the catch, practically every Vol who caught the ball had space to move, and none of Aguilar’s throws were challenged.

Tennessee is going to start things.

Due to Georgia’s decision to postpone its selection until the second half after winning the coin toss, Tennessee’s offense will start with the football. The Vols have scored three touchdowns and one field goal on their first possession in each of their four games against Georgia under head coach Josh Heupel. Usually, Tennessee’s issues arise from what happens after that predetermined first drive. Starting quickly is crucial, but keeping up the momentum will be crucial if Tennessee wants to end its eight-game losing streak to Georgia.

Tennessee is not glancing back at the quarterback.

Although many in the Tennessee football community would publicly deny it, many are keeping a close eye on Nico Iamaleava’s weekly decline at UCLA. A source from Tennessee stated, “There are some who pay attention for sure.”.

Joey Aguilar, a former underwhelming high school recruit, has thrown for 535 yards and five touchdowns with a 66.1% completion rate while avoiding interceptions. He assisted in guiding the Vols to a program-high 72 points against East Tennessee State last week. “‘.”.

The first Tennessee source stated, “In hindsight, we’re good.”. “I think everyone would say, ‘We got Joey? He is who he is here? We’re fine,’ if someone asked, ‘Would you do this all over?'”. “…

Some of the children are friends with Nico, so they will be reluctant to say it. However, Joey is more adept at moving the ball around. He has a wider social circle. He has greater charisma. He is not a recluse. “.”.

Tennessee sources reexamine the Nico Iamaleava story and accept Joey Aguilar as a better fit, saying, “In hindsight, we’re good.”.
