NASA reduces funding support for lunar, planetary and space sciences conferences by cutting off funding from conference funds

In November 2024, NASA issued a Request for Information (RFI) NNH25ZDA006L to gauge interest in a partnership to organize a conference on lunar, planetary, and space science.
The Planetary Science Division is studying options for future support of community-led and community-driven topical workshops, symposiums, and conferences.

Keith’s note: NASA SMD recently released this solicitation notice. One Q&A response to the November 2024 Request for Information: Conference on Lunar, Planetary and Space Sciences: Decision Made Not to Solicit Partnership Proposals states that “NASA will not be providing any financial support to the partner.”. NASA and an organization that organizes its own conference collaborate under the partnership approach. Under this agreement, NASA contributes its own funds to the collaboration, and the partner pays for the venue and other conference expenses. Additionally, NASA headquarters plans to attend this conference as a platform for the sharing and exchanging of knowledge and concepts between the planetary and lunar science communities. NASA provided an update on the status of an upcoming Announcement for Partnership Proposals (AFPP) in February 2025, based on the responses to this RFI. In accordance with the RFI and the “Questions and Answers for the LPSS RFI posted February 10, 2025,” NASA has decided not to pursue an AFPP at this time.
