Two U.S. District Courts have already blocked the Trump administration from freezing funding to Minneapolis on this unlawful basis.
The lawsuit is led by the city of San Francisco after the administration threatened to withhold funding from sanctuary jurisdictions.

The Trump Administration has placed the Twin Cities and other so-called Sanctuary Cities on notice, stating that a formal notice that they are in violation of federal law will be sent out in the next few days.
In an executive order issued Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security released the list and requires the cities to update their policies to conform to federal regulations.

A City of Minneapolis spokesperson responded to the order by giving 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the following statement late Friday morning.
