A judge in Florida temporarily halted Tuesday’s planned transfer of land in downtown Miami for President Trump’s future presidential library.
In summary, Miami historian and activist Marvin Dunn filed a lawsuit, arguing that the public should have been more involved in the process that resulted in Miami-Dade College giving the state ownership of the 2.63-acre property, which is estimated to be worth $67 million, in exchange for the donation of the property for Florida’s first presidential library.
According to Judge Mavel Ruiz of Florida’s 11th Judicial Circuit, Dunn accused the college board of trustees of breaking Florida’s Sunshine Law, which mandates open transparency. Ruiz stated on Tuesday that “the court does not believe that the notice was reasonable” in notification of a Sept. The Wall Street Journal reports that the plans were approved at the 23 meeting.
What we’re watching: The board’s attorneys have said they will appeal the decision, which does not automatically prevent the state from giving Trump the land.
Richard Brodsky, Dunn’s lawyer, stated in an emailed statement Tuesday night that “we believe that Judge Ruiz made a well-reasoned decision on this matter of great public importance.”.
