A source from inside the supply chain has revealed that the iPhone 17 Air will have a battery capacity of a laughably low 2,800 mAh.
Alongside the battery capacity this source also revealed that the iPhone 17 Air is 5.5 mm thick and weighs approximately 145 grams.
There are also rumors of the iPhone 17 Air using a denser battery to offset the short battery life but I highly doubt that that is the case.
The company is also reportedly planning on using Apple Intelligence to extend battery life on the iPhone 17 Air.
And from everything we know so far about the iPhone 17 Air I fear that Apple’s offering will meet the same fate.
Time to return to the heyday of the iPhone X.

Concerns regarding battery capacity were raised, and it turns out that they were justified, particularly in light of the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, a competitor, also has a small battery.
A supply chain insider has disclosed that the iPhone 17 Air will have a ridiculously small 2,800 mAh battery. This is significantly smaller than the Galaxy S25 Edge’s already minuscule 3,900 mAh battery. In order to create even thinner phones, Samsung and Apple seem content to forgo battery life, which consumers are requesting more of.
In addition to the battery capacity, this source disclosed the iPhone 17 Air’s dimensions: it weighs around 145 grams and is 5 mm thick. Due to the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 5/8 mm thickness, it appears that the iPhone 17 Air will be more svelte than the latter.
Although I seriously doubt it, there are also rumors that the iPhone 17 Air will use a denser battery to make up for its short battery life. The likelihood is much higher that Apple is relying on the small battery to increase sales of cases that prolong battery life.

It makes me think of the USB-C dongles that are used to use wired audio equipment after the headphone jack is removed. However, because these cases increase the thickness, they will render the phone’s primary selling point—its slimness—completely meaningless.
It is also said that the company intends to use Apple Intelligence to make the iPhone 17 Air’s battery last longer. Using data gathered from thousands of users, Apple is training AI to create a model that can maximize iPhone app usage. But I wouldn’t hold my breath for this feature to be very helpful considering how well Apple Intelligence has performed thus far.
Since its launch, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has been viewed with suspicion. A lot of customers wonder why the S25 Edge was created and even doubt the phone’s existence. And based on what we currently know about the iPhone 17 Air, I’m afraid Apple’s product will suffer the same outcome.
