We’ve been following the news on Adam Sandler’s next movie — Happy Gilmore 2, a sequel to his classic 1996 comedy about a hockey player who takes the pro golf world by storm — since it was first announced last September.
That’s partly because, like a lot of people roughly between the ages of 35-55, we’re big fans of the original.
There was only a brief glimpse at MJF’s character in the teaser trailer for HG2, which will drop on Netflix July 25.
Becky Lynch was also reportedly part of HG2’s cast, but we hadn’t seen her in any of the promotional pictures or clips released so far.

Since it was first revealed last September, we have been keeping up with the news surrounding Adam Sandler’s upcoming film, Happy Gilmore 2, which is a follow-up to his beloved 1996 comedy about a hockey player who becomes a sensation in the pro golf world. This is in part because, like many people in the 35–55 age range, we really enjoyed the original. However, the main reason is that we were informed that Maxwell Jacob Friedman, a former AEW World champion, would be portraying one of Sandler’s children in the upcoming film.
The teaser trailer for HG2, which will be available on Netflix on July 25, only gave a fleeting glimpse of MJF’s character. However, a complete trailer was unveiled at the streamer’s TUDUM event on Saturday, May 31, and it includes a lot more of Max as a member of the Gilmore family. In order for dad to access the links, he even dropped an elbow on the family hooptie. Additionally, we see MJF graduating, celebrating with his siblings like their old man, and bringing his dad—who looks to be a dummy of Ben Stiller—to strangle him.
Although Becky Lynch was purportedly a member of the HG2 cast, we haven’t seen her in any of the promotional images or videos that have been made public thus far. Apart from Nikki Bella, the WWE star can be seen yukking it up on the course, but she doesn’t make an appearance in the new trailer either. Perhaps about Rory McElroy, the real-life golf legend, hitting a ball into someone’s solar plexus while out on the links.
Though Bad Bunny, Damian Priest’s WrestleMania 37 partner and Backlash 2023 opponent, plays a waiter who is tricked into becoming Happy’s newest naive caddy, he is the show’s real wrestling neighbor.
See it for yourself.
