I’m guessing that pricing was the biggest reason why Samsung’s budget phones outperformed the iPhone 16e at the sales tills.

TL;DR.

The top ten phones sold in Q2 2025 have been revealed by Counterpoint Research.

Three iPhone 16 series models were in the top three, but the iPhone 16e was surpassed by two Galaxy phones.

The Xiaomi Redmi 14C 4G and the Galaxy S25 Ultra also appeared on the list, but the iPhone 16 Plus was completely absent.

Every quarter, Samsung and Apple typically top the list of the most popular smartphones. It’s essentially business as usual now that Counterpoint Research has revealed the top ten phones that sold in Q2 2025.

The top three smartphones in Q2 2025, according to Counterpoint Research, were iPhone 16 series devices. First came the iPhone 16, then the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and finally the iPhone 16. Oddly, the iPhone 16 Plus did not appear at all on the list of the top ten. So, it makes sense that the company decided to change course and release the iPhone Air last week.

Two Samsung phones outperformed the most recent iPhone.

In fourth place, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G was the most popular Android phone. Although the Galaxy A1x phones from the company have previously been the top-selling Android phones for a quarter, this is still evidence of the phone’s features and pricing as well as Samsung’s influence. The Galaxy A06 4G came in fifth place after this.

The Galaxy A16 5G and Galaxy A06 4G, however, actually outperformed the iPhone 16e (sixth place), which makes this time around rather intriguing. Indeed, at the time of the report, Samsung’s low-cost phones outperformed the newest and least expensive Apple release. The iPhone 16e was released the previous quarter, so you can’t blame the timing of the launch either.

Samsung’s low-cost phones probably outperformed the iPhone 16e at the registers primarily due to their lower prices. The iPhone 16e, after all, retailed for $599 at launch, whereas the Galaxy A16 5G costs $200 and the A06 4G costs about $110. Since Apple’s most recent releases frequently take the top spots, this is still a noteworthy turn of events.

The remainder of the list?

Since the Galaxy A16 4G and Galaxy S25 Ultra are ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, Samsung phones are also found elsewhere on the list. Seeing both phones here is not shocking. For a few years now, Galaxy Ultra phones have consistently made the top ten list in Q2.

The Xiaomi Redmi 14C 4G was the ninth most popular phone of the quarter, which is good news for those who dislike the Apple/Samsung duopoly. The Redmi 13C 4G broke the list a year prior to this. The performance was ascribed by Counterpoint to “emerging” regions such as Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
