Hundreds of anti-ICE protesters march through Downtown Pensacola

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Protests are breaking out around the country in response to President Donald Trumps’ crackdown on illegal immigration.
On Thursday night, protesters marched through Downtown Pensacola in solidarity with protesters in other cities.
“We’re out here to show them, to show our community that we’re out here with them,” said organizer Jasmine Brown.
“I’m here today because my children’s father, my fiancé, he’s currently in Escambia County Jail, being held with ICE,” said Gliott.
Many more protests are planned this weekend nationwide and in Pensacola.

Demonstrators showed their support for demonstrators in other cities by marching through Downtown Pensacola on Thursday night. The streets were filled with hundreds of people.

A lot of people were stopping to record videos and honking from their cars. This demonstration, according to organizers, is only the start.

Posters calling for the abolition of ICE were flying through the air. Protesters’ chants filled the streets.

“We are here to demonstrate to them and our community that we are with them,” organizer Jasmine Brown stated.

Brown is affiliated with the PSL, or Party for Socialism and Liberation. It is among the organizations that planned the nonviolent demonstration on Thursday. People came together from all walks of life, ages, and races.

Brown stated, “We’re not going to be on social media alone.”. “We will be on the streets, demonstrating to the public and lawmakers that we will not tolerate the terrorization of our communities. “.

The demonstration on Thursday is very personal to Emily Gliott.

Gliott stated, “I’m here today because my fiancé, who is the father of my children, is currently in Escambia County Jail, being held with ICE.”.

According to Gliott, her husband has been detained by ICE since Friday. She claims that his first language is Portuguese, which none of the jail staff can speak.

She claims that she and their three children are suffering as a result of her separation from her fiancé. Her youngest child has only been born for seven weeks.

“He was the provider,” Gliott stated. “He has never before encountered difficulties. Myrtle Grove Baptist is where he is an active member. “.

“This has had an effect on us,” she stated. Not just for my emotional and mental well-being. everything. “.”.

Demonstrators took to the streets because of Gliott and many others in her situation.

Brown remarked, “It’s not just sad; it’s evil.”.

She declared, “We won’t remain silent while their family members are being taken from their jobs and schools.”.

According to Brown, the battle will not end until all immigrants are given asylum. She claims that the community as a whole must put forth effort. This weekend, there will be a lot more protests both in Pensacola and across the country.

The protests, dubbed the “No Kings” protests, are aimed at the president’s large parade on Saturday, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Army. Additionally, it coincides with Trump’s 79th birthday.
