How to buy the Nintendo Switch 2: Latest stock availability for consoles and games

Engadget

The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally a thing you can buy in the US.
So before you call it quits, check if a nearby Target, GameStop, Walmart or Best Buy — the four official retailers Nintendo lists on its store page — still has consoles in stock.
Amazon doesn’t have any form of Switch 2 listing on its website, nor does it list first-party Switch 2 games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.
The same goes for games like Mario Kart World and the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Finally available for purchase in the United States is the Nintendo Switch 2. On June 5, the $450 console was formally put up for sale at midnight ET. A number of retailers are selling the device both online and in-store. As was to be expected, the online stock quickly ran out and is still extremely scarce as of late Friday afternoon. The most recent console we saw was offered by Costco, but in order to use it, you must have a membership. The precise timing of wider restocks is unknown, but they will occur eventually.

In general, it appears that going to a physical retail location during launch week has increased people’s luck. Although there is no guarantee that you will be able to obtain one in that manner, some Engadget employees were able to obtain a Switch 2 on Thursday at their neighborhood Target or GameStop without placing a pre-order. Before you give up, see if the four official retailers listed by Nintendo on its store page—Target, GameStop, Walmart, and Best Buy—still have consoles available in your area.

We’re compiling all the information we can find about where to buy the Nintendo Switch 2 and how to purchase it, in case you’re still looking for Nintendo’s newest gadget.

Which stores sell the Nintendo Switch 2?

As of our most recent update, Nintendo’s Mario Kart World bundle and the console alone are both sold out. Walmart opened online sales at midnight ET on June 5. Of course, the console is also available for purchase at the biggest retailer in the world’s physical stores. It’s worth checking to see if any nearby stores still have devices available, even though the company has stated that quantities are limited and inventory will vary by location.

The Switch 2 was first offered for sale in Target stores on June 5. Although you should still check out the stores nearest to you, the retailer cautioned that supply will be limited and the console might be sold out by the time you read this. Anecdotally, on Thursday at 4:15 PM ET, Billy Steele of Engadget managed to pick up a Switch 2 at a Target located just outside of Greensboro, North Carolina.

The business replenished its online stock on Friday, June 6 at approximately 3:30 AM ET. Although those listings were active for a longer period of time than we anticipated—at least a few hours—they have since run out of stock.

GameStop advertised in-store availability and hosted launch events on Wednesday, though again, this will differ by location. At a GameStop store in the New York City area on Thursday morning, Engadget’s Cherlynn Low was able to purchase the console without placing a preorder. Although there were just under 80 units available at that specific location, Low was informed by the manager that the inventory at other stores would vary depending on population.

At the moment, GameStop’s website does not have the device available. Though it’s sold out now, a $625 bundle that comes with Mario Kart World, a microSD Express card, and a few other accessories has been in and out of stock more often than the typical SKUs (and kind of a raw deal anyway). It made a brief comeback on Thursday afternoon, so if you can afford the additional expense, it might be worth bookmarking. In the meantime, the listings for the Mario Kart bundle and base console now direct users to a “Find a Store” page.

Beginning on June 5, Best Buy announced that its retail locations would have limited stock and hosted in-store launch events. However, during the week of launch, the console is not being sold online.

Verizon only allowed customers with Verizon service to place orders for the Switch 2 after it was briefly available on Thursday morning.

In addition to not listing first-party Switch 2 games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, Amazon does not have any kind of Switch 2 listing on its website. It is unclear whether or not the company will sell the Switch 2 because it did not accept any pre-orders for the device either.

Although Newegg has had the Switch 2 on its website for a few weeks, it has not provided a timeframe for when sales will start.

Despite the fact that the base console costs $50 more, we have observed that the Mario Kart World bundle is more readily available online thanks to all of these retailers. That might not be the worst thing, though, considering Mario Kart is the most popular launch game for the Switch 2 and costs $80 on its own.

A list of all the Switch 2 retail listings we were able to locate is provided below. It should be noted that this is merely a guide and not a list of all the locations where the device is currently available.

In addition to the Switch 2, Nintendo is selling a variety of accessories, such as controllers, cases, and cameras for its recently added GameChat feature. On June 5, the majority of these were also made available. Games like Mario Kart World and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on the Switch 2 are no exception. Even though you can pre-order Donkey Kong Bananza, another major Switch 2 release, today, it won’t be available until mid-July.

By late Friday afternoon, almost every Switch 2 game was still accessible. Although there are fewer accessories in stock, the majority of devices are still offered by several retailers. Right now, it appears that Nintendo’s official Switch 2 carrying cases are the exception.
