Hannah Einbinder on Her New Hairstyle for Season 5 of Hacks and Her Viral Emmy Speech

Vogue

“I’ll pay the difference, sorry,” Hacks star Hannah Einbinder quipped on Sunday night.
On Monday morning, Vogue caught up with Einbinder to talk about her speech, her Emmy look, and getting a bob at Chateau Marmont immediately after the show.
Hannah Einbinder: I have an adrenaline hangover.
Can you tell me a little bit more about your work with Pal Humanity?
Do you always have a speech prepared for the Emmys, or are you more of a wing-it person?

POSITIVE

Hacks star Hannah Einbinder joked on Sunday night, “I’ll pay the difference, sorry.”. After receiving four nominations, she accepted her first Emmy Award onstage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series. She skillfully acknowledged host Nate Bargatze’s awkward attempt to keep speeches brief, warning that if she went over 45 seconds, he would jeopardize a donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. She concluded her remarks with a statement that went viral right away: “I just want to say: Go Birds, fuck ICE, and free Palestine.”. “.”.

Although the 30-year-old comedian and actor Einbinder has long used her celebrity to support causes like the pro-choice organization Shout Your Abortion and the Palestinian-led international organization Pal Humanity, her Emmy night gave her a larger platform than usual. Einbinder spoke with Vogue on Monday morning about her speech, her Emmy appearance, and getting a bob at Chateau Marmont right after the show.

Vogue: Congratulations, Hannah! What are your thoughts after winning your first Emmy?

Hannah Einbinder: I’m experiencing a hangover from adrenaline. I feel completely exhausted even after smoking half a joint, drinking three sips of Champagne, one sip of tequila, and one espresso.

After the Emmys, where did your evening take you?

I returned to Chateau Marmont for a haircut. [laughs. My friends and I went to the HBO party and sat together after I chopped a very short bob for season five of Hacks. We also ate pasta together. Spending time with my Hacks family was a lot of fun. After our enjoyable conversation, I promptly went to bed by around 12:15 a.m. M.

How are you finding life as a Bob?

Bob’s life is not for the weak of heart. For such things, you truly need to train emotionally. Fortunately, I am certified, so I am accustomed to it. However, newcomers should be aware that there will be a period of adjustment. In the end, it is the Lord’s work, even though it is heavy.

I’m eager to hear Deborah Vance’s thoughts on Ava’s shorter hairstyle. Would you mind briefly describing your Emmy outfit?

I was dressed in Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton. This felt very classic, in contrast to previous Emmys and other award shows where we did things that felt very futuristic, structural, and architectural. I really enjoyed the embroidery, and the seamstresses there are exquisite and incredibly talented.

Your speech was fantastic. Specifically, how did you get to the last line?

I thought it was critical to make an effort to address the issues that are most important to me, which are opposing fascism and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Could you elaborate a bit on your work with Pal Humanity?

In the northern part of Gaza, Pal Humanity is an organization run by two female doctors that offers obstetric care to pregnant women and NICU care to babies suffering from malnutrition. A refugee camp was set up right outside the clinic, and a school was also established there. I reached out to the doctors, Nour and Nagham, and we have been communicating almost daily. Now that the Israeli occupation is moving north, their work is crucial. They are now forced to evacuate as the bombs are getting closer, and they are attempting to find a way to keep seeing patients. We are now trying to encourage a mass exodus with the money we were collecting for supplies, food, school supplies, rent, and electricity—all of which they require to carry on with their work. These are my friends, and they are really beautiful and amazing. It gives me great pride to help them in any way I can.

For the Emmys, do you always prepare a speech or do you prefer to wing it?

I had an idea for the little sign-off, but I didn’t prepare one for the first few years. Something like, “If I ever won, I would really want to say this.”. I therefore knew that was what I was aiming for.
