TL;DR.

An upcoming update to Gmail will add a new “Purchases” tab.

All of your purchase and delivery updates will be centralized in the new view.

Additionally, the mobile version of the update will give the Promotions category a “most relevant” sorting option.

With features like summary cards and package tracking, Gmail makes it relatively simple to keep track of your deliveries. Following up on the emails containing the purchase and delivery details is now simpler. An update for the Promotions category is also on the horizon.

First things first: Google is introducing the “Purchases” tab in Gmail. Based on recently purchased items and purchase-related emails, this tab is a new view that will consolidate all of your upcoming package deliveries. Google further states that summary cards and packages scheduled to arrive within 24 hours will remain at the top of your inbox. Simply put, this update introduces a new view that attempts to compile all of your delivery and purchase updates into a list so you can locate what you’re looking for fast.

This update might be useful if you need to locate an old email associated with a purchase. Or if you have several packages coming in, which will probably be important as the holidays draw near.

The update is being rolled out today, so you should soon see the Purchases tab. Both the mobile app and the website will offer the tab.

Next, a new sorting option is being added to the Promotions category. You will soon be able to sort promotional emails according to “most relevant.”. The emails from senders and brands that you interact with the most will be given priority by this sorting option. Google is also adding “nudges” to the category to draw attention to impending sales and attractive offers.

Google claims that if you don’t want to use this new sorting option, you can stay with the “most recent” sorting option. In the upcoming weeks, this update is expected to go live. However, only mobile users will be able to use the new sorting feature.
