After what’s felt like years of waiting—and a decade since, for better or worse, they last graced the silver screen—the Fantastic Four are back in action in our very first look at their MCU debut.
And it’s one that’s whisking them to the stars and back.
This morning Marvel unveiled the first public footage from The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Matt Shakman’s first theatrical MCU release after he produced and directed WandaVision.
Time will tell just how that goes down though, because clearly Marvel’s “First Family” already have a lot on their plate in their own movie to deal with, if this trailer is anything to go by!
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to hit theaters July 25, 2025.
In our first glimpse of their MCU debut, the Fantastic Four return to action after what seems like years of waiting—and ten years since, for better or worse, their last appearance on screen. They’re being carried to the stars and back by this one.
The first public footage from The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Matt Shakman’s first theatrical MCU release following his production and directing of WandaVision, was released by Marvel this morning. The film, which stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the titular quartet—Reed Richards, siblings Sue and Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm—traces their transformation from experimental test pilots into some of the first public superheroes on Earth after a spaceflight exposes them to cosmic radiation that gives them extraordinary abilities. This occurs just in time for the world to need to be saved from the cosmic threat of Marvel’s legendary devourer of worlds, Galactus (played by genre stalwart and legendary in his own right, Ralph Ineson).
Along with John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and others, First Steps also stars Julia Garner as Galactus’ herald, the Silver Surfer (based on the comic book character Shalla-Bal, a former host of the Silver Surfer’s power cosmic and typically portrayed as a romantic interest for the main Silver Surfer, Norrin Radd).
Following this month’s release of Captain America: Brave New World, the only other MCU movie to hit theaters in 2025, Fantastic Four: First Steps will undoubtedly help set the stage for the next team-up movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will not only feature this iteration of the Fantastic Four in some capacity but also tackle Robert Downey Jr., the team’s most well-known comic book antagonist. Victor Von Doom’s version. However, only time will tell how that plays out, as this trailer makes it apparent that Marvel’s “First Family” already has a lot on their plate with their own film!
In theaters on July 25, 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released.
