Quentin Tarantino may no longer be making The Movie Critic as his 10th and final film, but the Hollywood auteur became one when he gave two thumbs up to Todd Phillips’ antihero musical Joker: Folie à Deux during a podcast appearance.
“And I’m just nihilistic enough to kind of enjoy a movie that doesn’t quite work as a movie.
He’s saying f— you to anybody who owns any stock at DC and Warner Brothers […] And Todd Phillips is the Joker.
Un film de Joker, all right, is what it is.
Tarantino’s grade for Joker: Folie à Deux runs counter to the poor word of mouth the Hollywood tentpole generated before its recent box office release.
Although The Movie Critic is no longer Quentin Tarantino’s tenth and last film, the Hollywood director made it into one when, in a podcast, he praised Todd Phillips’ antihero musical Joker: Folie à Deux.
“It was really, really enjoyable. Lots. Like, amazing. I went to see it with the expectation that the filmmaking would be good. On Tuesday, Tarantino told The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, “I thought it was going to be an intellectual exercise that I would appreciate for what it is, even though I wouldn’t think it worked as a movie in the end.”.
Ignore the Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga film, which received a D Cinemascore upon its premiere in early October and subsequently failed at the box office, causing Warner Bros. to suffer significant losses. It seems that Tarantino implores his fellow film critics to disagree.
Additionally, I’m nihilistic enough to find some enjoyment in a film that doesn’t quite function as a film. To some extent, that is a huge, enormous mess. Furthermore, it wasn’t an intellectual exercise in my opinion. I got really sucked into it. I found the musical parts to be quite appealing. I became quite engrossed. Speaking about a recent Joker sequel screening at the multiplex, he contended, “I felt the more banal the songs were, the better they were.”.
As a Hollywood rebel, director Phillips particularly impressed Tarantino. To all of them, he is saying f— you. He is telling the moviegoers, “F— you.”. He’s telling Hollywood, “F—you.”. The Joker is Todd Phillips, and he’s saying f— you to anyone who owns stock in DC and Warner Brothers. Okay, so it’s a Joker movie. On the podcast, he declared, “He is the Joker.”.
Tarantino’s assessment of Joker: Folie à Deux contradicts the negative publicity the Hollywood blockbuster produced prior to its most recent theatrical debut. That came after the world premiere of Phillips’ divisive, R-rated sequel at the Venice Film Festival.
