WARNING: Information about Yellowstone’s Season 5 episode “Three Fifty-Three” is included in this article. “”.

The youngest son of patriarch John (played by Kevin Costner, who was abruptly fired from the show due to disagreements with co-creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan), Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) was the subject of Sunday night’s Yellowstone episode. In tonight’s episode, Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) is shot and killed, which is a shocking death. Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), the adopted son of the Dutton clan and Montana AG, has been in love with her. She persuaded Jamie to accept her suggestion that the best way to obtain John Dutton’s Montana ranch is to have him killed and make it appear as though it was an accident after traveling to Texas at the request of Market Equities, the Dutton clan’s bitterest adversary.

Although Sheridan fans may recall Olivieri from her role as Faith Hill’s matronly sister in 1883, her tenure as the femme fatale was comparatively short. Sheridan will undoubtedly find a way to incorporate her into one of his numerous series because she paved such a path on Yellowstone.

Returning to Kayce. We see firsthand how three mercenaries drugged John Dutton, set him up for suicide, and restrained him while he slept in the governor’s mansion. Equipped with a badge from his role as livestock commissioner and a number of influential people who owe him favors, Kayce challenges the coroner who declared Dutton’s death to be an obvious suicide. In a harsh manner, the coroner informs him that they did not perform a complete autopsy out of consideration for the family in case they requested a viewing. Kayce states, “I’m more worried about why he’s being buried.”. Signs indicate that John Dutton was restrained prior to being shot, confirming all of his theories.

As he hoped, Kayce creates a hornet’s nest by insisting that the results be made public right away. Sarah’s hired death broker will soon be on the phone, and you can already tell where this is going. In his office, Kayce confronts Jamie. After Bentley’s character emotionally assures Kayce that he would never be involved in their father’s murder, Kayce appears unconvinced and tells the AG that he hopes his statement is true “for your sake and mine.”. “.”.

Despite the overwhelming tax burden making it seem impossible to keep the ranch, Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and his right-hand man Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) visit the ranch to pay their respects and promise support to Kayce and Beth (Kelly Reilly). Though Beth and Thomas agree that this is their shared objective, the latter appears to have ideas about how to use Rainwater and his tribe’s influence to keep the land away from the condo development crowd.

Similar to “Yellowstone” and “Tulsa King,” Taylor Sheridan has authored films and television series.

After taking office, the interim governor declares his intention to support Jamie’s plan to sell the ranch. Kayce has found enough shady business to have the governor’s death changed from a suicide to a possible murder. By the time the governor addresses the legislature, he would support Jamie’s plan to effectively split up the Dutton ranch — delivering the deal to his girlfriend’s employer and paving the way for a quick run for governor. The new governor challenges Jamie’s plans, claiming that his attempts to save a portion of the Dutton family ranch have failed. Therefore, the son of the late governor is not allowed to participate in the land transfer at all by the new governor. Checkmate.

As Sarah and her Market Equities partner are having lunch, Sarah notices that John Dutton’s death has changed from a suicide to a homicide on the TV behind the bar. She says that the ranch will be theirs and that construction can start in a few months. She leaves the table in frustration and makes an unsuccessful attempt to contact her hitman using a burner phone. Jamie and his girlfriend face off after he hits her and she hits him back harder. He calls right away, and she pulls over to reassure him that he will be safe as long as he and Sarah trust each other, and that there will be no evidence linking him to his father’s murder. Two people in a different car interrupt her, asking for directions first. Jamie listens helplessly as they ask if she is Sarah Atwood and then shoot her body. and then breaks down in tears as he watches his plans fall apart even more. To use Western terminology, Jamie is aware that he is a loose end and that the murderers are circling the wagons.

Typically, Beth portrays the angel of retribution. As Kayce, Grimes excels, demonstrating his abilities as a former soldier killer who participated in covert operations and returned from his time in the Middle East with severe PTSD. He has previously killed, but we haven’t witnessed him apply his cunning in this way.

Furthermore, we have yet to witness the fury of Beth’s husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), who is arguably the most dangerous character on the show. John Dutton is the object of everyone’s loyalty. Hopefully, we will witness some righteous Rip wrath in the last three episodes after Kayce and his soldier friends figure out where to direct him.
