RICHARDSON, Texas — Former Dallas Cowboys player Greg Hardy was arrested in Richardson on a charge of assault of a family member, according to jail records.
Hardy’s bond was set at $1,000, jail records show.
The criminal case against Hardy was ultimately dismissed, but Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones faced staunch criticism for signing Hardy.
While with the Cowboys, Hardy got into an altercation with a teammate at practice and in a separate incident abandoned his Bentley in high water in Dallas.
The next year, in 2016, Hardy was arrested in Richardson on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.
According to jail records, Greg Hardy, a former player for the Dallas Cowboys, was arrested in Richardson on suspicion of assaulting a family member.
Hardy was arrested at 2:29 p.m. at the Richardson jail. A. according to records, on a charge of assault resulting in bodily harm to a family member on Wednesday.
According to jail documents, Hardy’s bond was set at $1,000. Hardy was seen leaving the jail at around noon after being picked up by someone.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Hardy and his girlfriend argued at home about a woman she thought Hardy was seeing. According to the affidavit, the girlfriend claimed that Hardy shoved her and restrained her by wrapping one hand around her neck.
The affidavit stated that Hardy then left the house. According to the affidavit, the responding officer observed “scratches and redness” on the girlfriend’s arms “that were consistent with a physical altercation.”.
In the affidavit, Hardy claimed that his girlfriend “got close in his face and started poking him in his forehead with her index finger” when they were called by the police. Then, according to Hardy, he pushed his girlfriend aside and put her on the bed.
The affidavit stated, “Hardy was adamant nothing else had happened.”.
Hardy, who spent a season with the Cowboys before quitting football to pursue mixed martial arts, is involved in another legal dispute. The controversy surrounding Hardy’s signing tainted his time with Dallas. Following accusations of domestic abuse by his ex-girlfriend, Hardy was placed on the NFL’s exempt list in 2014 while he was a member of the Panthers. Following the incident, he was given a four-game suspension, which he served after joining the Cowboys.
Hardy insisted on his innocence during the ordeal, claiming he was being treated like “a leper” in the process. He did, however, also express “regret” after pictures of his ex-girlfriend’s purported injuries surfaced.
Jerry Jones, the general manager and owner of the Cowboys, came under heavy fire for signing Hardy, even though the criminal case against him was eventually dropped.
That being said, Hardy’s time with the Cowboys was brief. Hardy had a fight with a teammate during practice while he was with the Cowboys, and in another incident, he left his Bentley in high water in Dallas.
Hardy was arrested the following year, in 2016, in Richardson on a felony charge of possessing a controlled substance.
Following his football career, Hardy developed an interest in mixed martial arts and briefly competed in the UFC. The last of his three knockout losses occurred in March 2022.
