During the PlayStation State of Play presentation, sq\. Enix unveiled a new trailer confirming that the much-discussed Final Fantasy Tactics remaster is real. A September 30, 2025, release date was also included in the trailer.

The trailer is below.

A new and improved version of the game with an updated user interface and other quality-of-life enhancements is brought about by the remake, which is officially called Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. Tactics is a notoriously difficult game with a few difficulty spikes that were known to lock players into battles so intense that if your character levels were too low, you could never beat them, forcing some to start the game over. According to the PlayStation Blog, this includes a new, more approachable “Squire” difficulty setting, which should help new players get acquainted with the game.

Additionally, the enhanced edition features “extensive additions and adjustments to the story” and other new features that sq\. Enix did not disclose, along with fully voiced dialogue throughout the game.

However, a “classic” version of The Ivalice Chronicles featuring FFT’s original graphics and gameplay will also be available if you’d prefer a more nostalgic experience. For the story, that version of the game will employ the “War of the Lions” translation, which was first featured in the 2007 PlayStation Portable version of Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions.

Both the PS4 and PS5 will be able to play Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.

In Japan, Final Fantasy Tactics debuted on June 20, 1997, for the Sony PlayStation. A few months later, on January 28, 1998, it was released in the West. Ten years after the original release, the game was remastered for the PSP with the subtitle “The War of the Lions.” This version included new cutscenes, multiplayer features, and other additional features.
