WASHINGTON, Oct. 1 (Reuters) – The FBI announced Wednesday that it had severed its connection with the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish organization that monitors antisemitism, following conservative attacks on the group for mentioning the organization of slain activist Charlie Kirk in an extremism glossary.

Patel’s announcement came after right-wing voices, including billionaire Elon Musk, criticized the ADL for including Kirk’s Turning Point USA in a “Glossary of Extremism and Hate.”. September saw the assassination of Kirk.
The entire glossary was taken down from the ADL’s website following that criticism. Turning Point USA denies the group’s history of “bigoted statements,” which the glossary claimed it had.
The ADL “works closely with federal, state and local law enforcement” to combat hate and extremism, according to its website. It also reveals that the FBI had been using it for research and data since the 1940s.

Citing Kirk’s comments about Black, LGBTQ+, Muslim, and immigrant communities, civil rights activists denounced his rhetoric as racist, anti-immigrant, transphobic, and misogynistic.
Kirk’s followers referred to him as a champion of public discourse and a defender of conservative principles who inspired young people to support Trump.
ADL keeps track of hate and antisemitism. Critics claim that it confuses criticism of Israeli policies, such as Israel’s invasion of Gaza and occupation of Palestinian territories, with antisemitism.
While calling that conflation a misconception, the ADL’s website claims that “some types of anti-Israel rhetoric and activism delegitimize Israel and its existence, and are antisemitic when they vilify and negate Zionism.”. “..”.
