WARNING: Important plot points from Yellowstone Season 5B are revealed in this post.
After the Paramount Network premiere of Yellowstone Season 5B on Sunday, Kevin Costner is responding to the fate of his character John Dutton.
When the actor and director left the series because of scheduling conflicts with his multi-film Horizon: An American Saga franchise, he was written out of the family saga. Costner discusses his thoughts in a recent interview after his character, John Dutton, was killed off in the second half of Season 5’s premiere.
“I failed to notice it.”. Costner stated on The Michael Smerconish Program on SiriusXM today, “I heard it’s a suicide, so that doesn’t make me want to rush to go see it.”.
They’re pretty smart people,” Costner remarked in response to Smerconish’s observation that John Dutton didn’t seem like a “suicide kind of guy.”. Perhaps it is a red herring. They’re excellent, so who knows? And they will resolve that. “.”.
In the interview, Costner reaffirmed that he didn’t leave Yellowstone because his schedule didn’t allow him to finish the series.
“I really didn’t have to leave anything behind. The gaps that existed were there. Because both were contractual, you had to make room for the other thing, but there were contractual provisions that would allow both to be completed. They had trouble sticking to their schedule, but there was space,” Costner said. “It appeared to be, but they simply couldn’t accomplish it.”. Whatever happened at that time, you can handle it. But I didn’t go, and nobody did. I remained on the show. I had agreed to complete all three, all right? A contract to complete all three was in place. And two more distinct contract types were being negotiated in roughly eight months. They asked me to try things, not the other way around. “.”.
“I accommodated them on those extra two things that changed,” Costner went on, “but things change, and when they wanted to change it a third time, I couldn’t help them anymore because I had 300 people waiting for me and I had obligations to fulfill.”. I was unable to assist them. However, I stayed on the show. No, there was just a requirement that everyone fulfill their commitments. Furthermore, it makes no difference what industry you are in. “”.
