The West End debut of the Devil Wears Prada musical was music to Elton John‘s ears.
During the Sunday premiere, the musician revealed that the progression of a recent eye infection has resulted in a loss of sight.
“As some of you may know, I have had issues, and now I have lost my sight.
In September, John revealed that his vision was limited in his right eye due to a “severe” infection.
In the months since, John has detailed restrictions that have come with his limited sight.
Elton John was thrilled to see the Devil Wears Prada musical make its West End debut. He has only been able to hear the production, though. The musician disclosed during the Sunday premiere that he has lost his sight due to the progression of a recent eye infection.
I’ve had problems, as some of you may be aware, and I’ve now lost my vision. “I have enjoyed the performance, even though I haven’t been able to see it,” John said to the crowd at the Dominion Theatre in London. Since I haven’t been able to attend many of the previews, my husband has been my pillar of support. I enjoy hearing about it, and tonight it sounded good. “”.
His husband, David Furnish, who has supported the musician since his vision was first affected over the summer, helped John get on and off the stage. John disclosed in September that a “severe” infection in his right eye was limiting his vision. Although he acknowledged that it would take time for him to regain his sight, he expressed hope that his recovery would be successful.
Since then, John has experienced specific limitations due to his vision impairment. In a November interview with Good Morning America, he revealed, “I haven’t done anything in a long time.”. Hope and encouragement that everything will work out are present. I could do something like this, but I’m kind of stuck in the present because I’m not sure how I’ll feel about going into the studio and recording. To begin with, I am unable to see the lyrics. “.”.
John’s health issues don’t start with his blurred vision. During the New York premiere of his documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late, he made a half-joke about “not much of me left,” saying, “I don’t have an appendix, tonsils, or adenoids.”. There is no prostate in me. I don’t have a right hip, left knee, or right knee. Actually, my left hip is all that’s left of me. However, he also mentioned that he has been able to find solace in music during it all.
He said, “I have to thank music for being the most incredible inspiration to me throughout my whole life because I still played and recorded music even when I was in my darkest moments.”. John will now need to develop new skills for navigating his creative process.
