Elton John revealed he has lost his sight following an eye infection.
“I have lost my sight and I haven’t been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed listening to it,” he said on stage at the charity event for the Elton John AIDS Foundation held at The Dominion Theatre in London on Sunday evening.
I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France.
We’re taking an initiative to try and get it better, but at the moment that’s really what we’re concentrating on.
And it kind of floored me and I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.”
After contracting an eye infection, Elton John disclosed that he has lost his vision.
During a West End gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, for which he wrote the lyrics, the well-known singer-songwriter stated that he could only appreciate the show aural, according to the BBC.
“I have lost my sight, so I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed listening to it,” he said on stage at the Elton John AIDS Foundation charity event on Sunday night at London’s Dominion Theatre. The Daily Mail claims that his husband, David Furnish, helped him off stage.
He continued, “To my husband who has been my rock because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews,” according to the Daily Mail. Even though it’s difficult for me to see, I enjoy hearing it, and tonight it sounded nice. I appreciate you being here.
The five-time Grammy winner told ABC News’ Robin Roberts last week that his vision had gotten worse and that the health problem had forced him to postpone plans for a new album.
“A long time has passed since I did anything,” he remarked. All I need to do is get off my ass.
