From Hannah Einbinder’s “f*ck ICE and free Palestine” speech to Tramell Tillman becoming the first Black actor to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Sunday night’s 77th Primetime Emmy Awards had many memorable moments.
However, there were some really fascinating off-camera moments. While the cameras weren’t rolling, Deadline was present at tonight’s show, monitoring everything that happened. Here are some of the things we observed.
The man of the hour was Stephen Colbert.
Stephen Colbert of The Late Show was greeted by a thunderous round of applause and a 30-second standing ovation when he took the stage early in the evening to present the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, which went to Seth Rogen of The Studio. However, the enthusiastic “Stephen! Stephen!” that the audience started chanting for the late-night host may have gone unheard. Later in the evening, when he won Outstanding Talk Series, he received a hearty and prolonged round of applause. And the chants came back. The audience was truly going bonkers.

When Bowen Yang embraces Jeff Hiller.
Following his appearance in Nate Bargatze’s opening sketch, Bowen Yang of Saturday Night Live immediately headed to Jeff Hiller of Somebody Somewhere before settling in. Just minutes before Hiller’s first Emmy Award, the two seemed thrilled to see one another and gave each other a big hug.
Sterling k. Brown with a damaged Achilles on a scooter.
The Sterling K. Despite suffering an Achilles heel injury, Brown was a trooper on Sunday night, attending the ceremony. The biggest stars of the evening came by Brown, who was seated in the second row, to say hello and send their best wishes.

An extremely popular concession stand.
There were numerous celebrity encounters taking place in Downtown L’s lobby. a. Emmy attendees could purchase refreshments at the Peacock Theater, including popcorn and cocktails. Whenever you go out during a commercial break, you’re sure to spot a celebrity or two, such as Rita Ora and Taika Waititi or Liza Colón-Zayas (along with her husband David Zayas) and Abby Elliott from The Bear, who all grab some snacks between awards. The actors from The White Lotus were stopped by a few drag queens who wanted to greet Jason Isaacs and Sam Rockwell. Aimee Lou Wood, their co-star, was also stopped for pictures while getting a drink.
Everybody wants to pause and greet the service dog in the lobby.
A service dog with an Emmys guest was the most sought-after interaction, despite the presence of TV’s biggest stars. Everyone was excited to have a chance to interact with the honored furry guest.

Jimmy Kimmel made sure to give his friend Stephen Colbert a hug during a commercial break after lending him his own Emmy campaign in response to The Late Show’s abrupt cancellation. Kimmel even kissed Colbert on the cheek before taking a picture.
Huge applause and standing ovation for Owen Cooper, star of Adolescence.
Few winners have the ability to get the whole audience at the Peacock Theater up and dancing, but 15-year-old Owen Cooper did just that. When we say that almost everyone cheered when the newcomer became the youngest male actor to win the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie, we mean really everyone.
Pedro Pascal gets along well with the White Lotus cast and almost everyone else.
Pedro Pascal was the one that everyone was eager to speak with. The Last of Us nominee ruled the Emmys all night long, mingling with some of the biggest stars present, including Cate Blanchett, Julianne Nicholson, Martin Short, and Tony Gilroy. In one particular commercial break, he was spotted catching up with characters from another HBO hit, The White Lotus, including Walton Goggins, Sam Rockwell, and Leslie Bibb.

The cheers and the jeers.
Even though their opinions can occasionally be difficult to discern, the audience is always audible during the telecast. When Chris Abrego, the chairman of the Television Academy, brought up Congress’ defunding of public broadcasting, let’s just say there were a lot of jeers. However, when it was brought up that Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen specifically supported the LGBTQ community, there were a lot of applause.
Even though CBS parent company Paramount condemned a recent open letter from thousands of members of Film Workers for Palestine, which called for a boycott of Israeli film institutions “implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people,” Hannah Einbinder’s reference to ICE and Palestine also garnered a lot of support in the room. Inspired by the Filmmakers United Against Apartheid movement’s 1987 pledge, FWP criticised Paramount for “misrepresenting the pledge in an attempt to silence our colleagues in the film industry,” stating that its objective “takes aim at institutional complicity, not identity.”. “”.

Ozzy Osbourne, John Amos, Maggie Smith, David Lynch, and Quincy Jones received the loudest cheers during the In Memoriam segment. Curiously, despite the fact that The Pitt outperformed Severance in most of the categories in which they competed, the latter received far more applause.
Cocktails in hand, Scarlett Johansson hurried back to her seat.
Scarlett Johansson was seen hurrying back to her seat, just seconds before the end of another commercial break, as the ushers urged everyone to clear the aisles with just over an hour remaining in the show. Given that she was holding two cocktails, it was obvious that she was coming from concessions. Naturally, her Emmy-winning husband Colin Jost was also present. With the previously mentioned Emmy in hand, the couple sneaked out of the show a little early, right before Noah Wyle’s victory for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
