Elon Musk’s grievances with the Trump administration extend beyond the level of spending in the president’s signature bill, sources tell ABC News.
Multiple people who have spoken to the president and Musk described a widening rift on a range of recent moves by the administration.

Musk had also grown increasingly frustrated with the Trump administration striking artificial intelligence deals with his competitor OpenAI, sources tell ABC News.
On Tuesday, Musk took to X to lambaste the funding bill to advance Trump’s legislative agenda, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”
Sources tell ABC News that Elon Musk has more complaints about the Trump administration than just the amount of money in the president’s signature bill.
A growing divide over a number of recent administration actions was detailed by several individuals who have spoken with Musk and the president.
According to several people who have spoken with the billionaire, Musk has privately voiced his displeasure with a section of the spending bill that would reduce the electric vehicle tax credit.
Musk advocated for the tax credit to be discontinued following the November election, but more recently, Tesla, his company, has come out against the move.
“America’s energy independence and the dependability of our grid would be threatened if the energy tax credits were abruptly discontinued,” the company wrote on social media.
According to sources who spoke to ABC News, Musk also became more and more irate when the Trump administration struck agreements with his rival OpenAI on artificial intelligence.
According to sources, Musk objected behind the scenes to a deal that excluded his AI start-up, but it eventually went through.
Musk was reportedly extremely disappointed by the decision to withdraw his ally Jared Isaacman’s nomination as NASA administrator over the weekend, which was another point of contention.
Deep differences of opinion have also existed regarding trade policy. Musk referred to trade advisor Peter Navarro as “moron” and “dumber than a sack of bricks” in a series of posts on X in April.
Musk blasted the funding bill to further Trump’s legislative agenda on X on Tuesday, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”. He persisted in attacking the bill through a barrage of X posts from Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning.
One of Musk’s posts read, “Enough! Mammoth spending bills are bankrupting America!”.
There was no response from the White House. A request for comment from Musk’s representative was not answered.
