Can a redesign save Apple’s software?

Windows Central

There’s a running theory in tech circles that says, basically, AI is the new UI.
Is that the actual future, absurd AI boosterism, or something in between?
Apple, however, appears poised to go… a different way.
On this episode of The Vergecast, Nilay and David discuss some of the rumors surrounding WWDC, including the possibility of a huge redesign and a new naming scheme for all of Apple’s software.
It’s been a busy May for tech news, and it appears there’s a lot more to come.

In tech circles, there is a prevalent theory that AI is the new user interface. Some claim that you won’t need a homescreen full of app icons, a conventional web browser, or anything else in the near future—just an interface to an AI assistant and agent that takes care of everything for you. Who knows if that is the real future, ludicrous AI boosterism, or something else entirely, but the number of people who believe in AI appears to be increasing daily.

That being said, Apple seems ready to take a different approach. Nilay and David talk about some of the WWDC rumors on this episode of The Vergecast, such as the potential for a significant redesign and a new naming convention for all of Apple’s software. Everything is perfectly reasonable, albeit a little unclear. We have a lot of opinions, but is it just a new look for an old concept when Apple should be delivering the improved Siri it has long promised? Oh, and an update on the party speaker. ).

Following the Apple discussion, we discuss some of the other tech-related stories from the week, such as Nilay’s Decoder interview with Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google. The end of the web as we know it seems more clear than ever when you combine that with recent news about The Browser Company and new agreements for AI training data. That’s not to say the web is dead, but rather that something new is about to happen.

Finally, it’s time for another episode of Brendan Carr is a Dummy in the lightning round. There will also be some discussion about Elon Musk’s exit from the federal government and the upcoming Switch 2 launch. May has been a busy month for tech news, and it looks like there will be a lot more in the future.
