Israeli airstrikes killed at least 38 Palestinians in a half-hour period overnight throughout the Gaza Strip, Palestinian medical personnel said.

According to the Hamas-run civil defense agency, Israeli warplanes hit a number of targets, including an abandoned fuel station in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza that was providing shelter to displaced families and a school in eastern Gaza City.

It further stated that the intensity of the bombardment and a lack of equipment were posing significant challenges for rescue teams trying to reach the injured.

The assault follows Israel’s widespread order to evacuate Gaza’s civilian population in anticipation of what it described as an “unprecedented attack.”.

Gaza City activists say an Israeli airstrike struck classrooms at the Musa bin Nusayr School, where hundreds of displaced people were taking refuge, killing ten people.

A strike targeting tents at an abandoned fuel station in Nuseirat, central Gaza, is said to have killed 15 people.

Local journalists reported that an airstrike on the Abu Samra family’s three-story house in the heart of Deir al-Balah killed 13 Palestinians.

Separately, ten airstrikes were launched by Israeli jets against the eastern Gaza City neighborhood of Shujaiya.

Local reports said the explosions caused earthquake-like tremors. It is thought that the strikes were directed at the underground tunnel system used by Hamas.

The strike coincides with a joint statement from the leaders of the UK, France, and Canada threatening to take action against Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he continues to pursue his plan to “take control” of all of Gaza.

Netanyahu called the announcement a “huge prize” for Hamas.

After an 11-week blockade, Israel earlier announced it would permit a “basic amount” of food to enter Gaza.

The quantity of aid, however, was a “drop in the ocean of what is urgently needed,” according to UN aid chief Tom Fletcher.

Around 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage in the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which set off the war.

Of the 58 hostages still in Gaza, up to 23 are thought to be alive.

Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has claimed the lives of at least 53,486 Palestinians, according to the health ministry run by Hamas.
