The car bombing outside a California fertility clinic that killed one person and injured four others appears to have been driven by anti-natalist ideology, according to two senior law enforcement officials briefed on the incident.
Investigators are focusing on social media posts made by the suspect, including a 30-minute audio recording, which they say support anti-natalist views.
While the posts and the recording are still being verified, officials believe they reflect the ideology behind the bombing.
Authorities believe the suspect is a 25-year-old man from Twentynine Palms, three law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation told NBC News.
On Saturday, multiple law enforcement tactical officers were seen outside a Twentynine Palms residence, about an hour away from the targeted fertility clinic.

Investigators are looking into the suspect’s 30-minute audio recording and social media posts, which they claim support anti-natalist viewpoints. Although the recording and the posts are still being checked, officials think they capture the bombing’s ideology.
According to the sources, the same individual might also be connected to an online forum post from earlier this month in which the person discussed ending their life with an explosive device. Under the same username, they are also looking into a YouTube account that posts videos of homemade explosives experiments.
The unidentified suspect reportedly struggled with depression and personal relationship problems. According to three law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation, authorities think the suspect is a Twentynine Palms man, age 25. They told NBC News this.
About an hour from the targeted fertility clinic, several law enforcement tactical officers were spotted outside a home in Twentynine Palms on Saturday. The sources verified to NBC News that the activity there was related to the Palm Springs probe.
Due to his body’s state following the explosion, the FBI and Palm Springs Police Department have refrained from identifying the suspect.
The extent of the blast victims’ injuries was not made public.
The Saturday explosion was classified as an act of terrorism by the FBI.
The explosion occurred at approximately 11 a.m. at 1199 North Indian Canyon Drdot. m. as stated by city officials. There are several medical facilities along the street, including the Desert Regional Medical Center.
