On the Nintendo Switch 2, all these problems are a thing of the past since the game runs at a rock-solid 30 frames per second on the new console.
Moreover, the game’s resolution has increased noticeably on the Switch 2 thanks to dynamic resolution, which can be reduced when the frame rate drops in order to stabilize performance.
YouTube channel GVG tested several other Switch games on the Nintendo Switch 2 and provides some interesting insights.
Dragon Quest Builders 2, for example, runs consistently at 60 frames per second on the Nintendo Switch 2, instead of the 20 to 40 fps it achieved on the original Switch.
Challenging online levels, which run at barely more than 10 fps on the original Switch, reach almost 30 frames per second on the Switch 2.
Because the game runs at a solid 30 frames per second on the new Nintendo Switch 2, all of these issues are resolved. Even on the faster console, Switch players will have to settle for the extremely low-resolution textures of the Switch version if there is no update.
Similar circumstances apply to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which runs steadily at 30 frames per second on the Nintendo Switch 2, whereas demanding scenes on the first-generation Nintendo Switch could only be displayed at about 20 frames per second. Additionally, the Switch 2’s dynamic resolution—which can be lowered when the frame rate drops to stabilize performance—has significantly improved the game’s resolution.
The YouTube channel GVG offers some intriguing insights from their testing of a number of other Switch games on the Nintendo Switch 2. For example, Dragon Quest Builders 2 consistently runs at 60 frames per second on the Nintendo Switch 2, as opposed to the 20 to 40 fps it was able to achieve on the original Switch. The Switch 2 can achieve nearly 30 frames per second for challenging online levels, which on the original Switch ran at just over 10 frames per second.
Games like Super Smash Bros. and Bayonette 3. Hyrule Warriors, Super Mario RPG, and Ultimate all operate at a fluid 60 frames per second on the Switch 2, while The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild maintains a steady 30 frames per second even without the Switch 2 Edition upgrade. Additionally, loading times are compared in the video, with very encouraging results.

Faster loading times in these situations are most likely caused by the processor because the games with a star were tested on a game cartridge and cannot take advantage of the console’s faster flash storage.
