Vice President JD Vance said he wasn’t sure Elon Musk could ever get back into the good graces of President Donald Trump, after the two men’s relationship blew up earlier this week.
In the interview released Saturday, Vance told podcaster Theo Von that it was a “big mistake” for Musk to attack the president.
Musk has been vocal in his opposition of the Trump-backed spending bill, which he argues will increase the nation’s deficit.
Many Republicans have rallied to Trump’s defense, suggesting they are taking his side in the fight — including Vance.
“I just think it’s a huge mistake for the world’s wealthiest man … to be at this war with the world’s most powerful man,” Vance said on the podcast.
Following the explosive breakup between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump earlier this week, Vice President JD Vance expressed his doubts that Musk would ever win back Trump’s favor.
As he was recording a podcast, the vice president was compelled to react in real time to Musk’s onslaught of social media posts against Trump on Thursday. These posts included accusations that the president was on “the Epstein files,” which refers to the sex predator Jeffrey Epstein.
In the Saturday interview, Vance told podcaster Theo Von that Musk made a “big mistake” by criticizing the president.
Sitting in front of a painting of the president, Vance declared, “I’m always going to be loyal to the president, and I hope that eventually Elon comes back into the fold.”. Maybe that isn’t feasible right now because of how nuclear he has become. “”.
After Musk, the former head of the Department of Government Efficiency, launched a barrage of criticism against the president in recent days, including pointing out his ties to Epstein and suggesting that he ought to be impeached, their relationship has fallen apart.
It has long been known that documents made public in court cases involving Epstein make reference to Trump and other well-known politicians. However, Trump is not charged with any misconduct related to Epstein.
Musk, who believes the Trump-backed spending bill will raise the national deficit, has been outspoken in his opposition to it. Trump, however, threatened Musk’s government contracts, implied that the richest man in the world had “lost his mind,” and insisted that he was moving on from Musk during their heated exchange earlier this week.
Vance is among the numerous Republicans who have mobilized in support of Trump, indicating that they are siding with him in the conflict.
“I don’t think it’s going to be good for Elon either, but it’s going to be bad for the country, most importantly, if he and the president are in some blood feud,” Vance told Von.
Although Musk has since removed the initial post in which he accused Trump of being on the “Epstein list,” he has made references to it in other posts.
On the podcast, Vance stated, “I just think it’s a huge mistake for the world’s wealthiest man … to be at this war with the world’s most powerful man.”.
