What is the current in-stock availability of Nintendo Switch 2 on consoles and games?

Finally available for purchase in the United States, the Nintendo Switch 2 is something you can try to purchase. On June 5, the $450 console was formally put up for sale at midnight ET. Many retailers now sell the device both online and in-store. Online stock, as expected, quickly ran out and is still extremely scarce as of Thursday night.

Going to a physical retail store seems to have been somewhat more successful for people overall. Although there is still no assurance that you will be able to obtain one in that manner, two Engadget employees were able to obtain a Switch 2 on Thursday at their neighborhood Target and GameStop despite the lack of a pre-order.

If the Switch 2 isn’t available in the wild, Target appears to be your best option for getting it online. The retailer has not confirmed an exact time beyond Friday, June 6th, but says it will resume selling the console online in the “early morning.”.

We’re compiling all the information we can find about how to purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch and keeping track of any restocks that occur to make things a little easier for those who are still looking.

What stores sell the Nintendo Switch 2?

According to our most recent update, Nintendo’s Mario Kart World bundle and the console alone are still unavailable, even though Walmart opened online sales at midnight on June 5. Of course, the console is also available for purchase at the biggest retailer in the world’s physical stores. Although the business has stated that there are limited quantities and that inventory will differ by location, it is still worthwhile to see if there are any devices left in any nearby stores.

The Switch 2 was first offered for sale in Target stores on June 5. Despite the retailer’s warning that supply will be limited, as of Thursday night, it still looks like some stores had the console in stock, so it might be worth checking out the ones nearest you. Anecdotally, Billy Steele of Engadget managed to retrieve the gadget at a Target store just outside of Greensboro, North Carolina, on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. ET.

While supplies last, the company plans to replenish its online inventory in the “early morning” of Friday, June 6. That might be the best chance to get the Switch 2 without visiting a store in the near future.

The device isn’t available on GameStop’s website as of this writing. Mario Kart World, a microSD Express card, and a few other accessories are all part of a $625 bundle that has been in and out of stock more often than the regular SKUs. However, the bundle is now sold out (and kind of scummy anyway). If you can afford the extra expense, it might be worth bookmarking. We saw it briefly come back up around 2:30 pm ET. Meanwhile, the listings for the Mario Kart bundle and base console now direct users to a “Find a Store” page.

Best Buy announced that its retail locations would have limited stock beginning on June 5 and held in-store launch events at midnight. However, during launch week, the console is not being sold online.

Additionally, some membership-based retailers might be able to help you. Costco’s Mario Kart World package that comes with a 12-month subscription to Switch Online has been in and out of stock, but Sam’s Club has also offered a bundle without the Switch Online subscription. In order to check on either of those, however, you will need a membership. Although as of our most recent update, those listings are not available, we have also observed online stock at BJ’s.

Verizon only allowed customers with Verizon service to place orders for the Switch 2 after it was briefly available on Thursday morning.

Amazon is currently the only significant retailer without a Switch 2 listing of some kind on its website. Additionally, the company did not accept pre-orders for the Switch 2, so it is uncertain whether or not the device will be sold.

The Switch 2 has been listed on Newegg’s website for a few weeks, but sales have not yet begun.

The Mario Kart World bundle is typically offered online in larger quantities through all of these stores than the base console, which is $50 less expensive. However, that might not be the worst thing given that Mario Kart is the most popular launch game for the Switch 2 and costs $80 on its own.

In contrast, Nintendo continues to sell the Switch 2 exclusively through invitation-only sales. As of April 2, you must have accrued at least 50 hours of Switch 1 playtime and been a Switch Online member for at least 12 months. If you fit the requirements, it can’t hurt to put your name on the list. However, don’t expect anything to happen anytime soon, as many people who registered in April haven’t received an invitation, and many of those who did order—including yourself—haven’t received their shipments yet.

Along with the Switch 2, Nintendo is also selling a number of new accessories, the majority of which were released on June 5. The same is true of video games like Mario Kart World and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which is available on the Switch 2. Though you can still pre-order it now, Donkey Kong Bananza, another popular Switch 2 game, won’t be available until mid-July.

Almost every Switch 2 game is still accessible as of Thursday night. The majority of devices are typically in stock at specific retailers, but the accessories have somewhat erratic stock.
