Chelsea and AC Milan to discuss Mike Maignan contract in upcoming weeks, while sources suggest that negotiations are ongoing

We Ain't Got No History

Chelsea and AC Milan remain far apart on a valuation for Mike Maignan, with the Serie A side asking for €25-30m, and the Blues willing to go only as high as €10m.
As Gazzetta dello Sport note, Chelsea believe that this is a fair number for a soon-to-be 30-year-old goalkeeper on the last year of his contract, and are unwilling to budge from that.
In the meantime, new Milan manager, Massimiliano Allegri is doing his best to convince Maignan to stay at the San Siro.
However, L’Equipe (via GFFN) and Calciomercato note that Maignan wants to sign for Chelsea, having turned down multiple renewal offers, and wants to play in the Champions League.
While Maignan would be a short(er)-term solution, the long-term planning at the position likely revolves around the vastly talented Mike Penders.

NONE

In terms of Mike Maignan’s valuation, Chelsea and AC Milan are still far apart; the Serie A team is requesting €25–30 million, while the Blues are only willing to pay €10 million. Chelsea is unwilling to deviate from this figure because they think it is reasonable for a goalie who will soon turn 30 and is in the final year of his contract, as Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

Thankfully, a solution to end the impasse may still be in sight. According to Daniele Longo, Chelsea and Milan are anticipated to attempt to reach a compromise before the end of the week.

Massimiliano Allegri, Milan’s new manager, is making every effort to persuade Maignan to remain at the San Siro in the interim. But according to L’Equipe (via GFFN) and Calciomercato, Maignan has rejected several offers of renewal and wants to play in the Champions League, so he wants to sign with Chelsea. Mile Svilar and Marco Carnesecchi have already begun to be considered as potential replacements by the Rossoneri.

Although Maignan would be a temporary fix, Mike Penders, who is incredibly talented, is probably the main focus of the position’s long-term planning. But Penders’ only option for next season is a loan, and he might end up in Strasbourg, where he would take Đorđe Petrović’s place.
