A number of golfers are still in the running to win the Wanamaker Trophy as the second major of the 2025 season approaches its final 18 points. The 2025 PGA Championship is still going strong on Sunday, with many prominent players aiming for the big prize—not just the sport’s heaviest trophy, but also one of the largest winner shares from the $19 million prize money and purse pool.

One of those people is not Rory McIlroy. The 2025 Masters champion is playing well this weekend, sitting T49 after three rounds, a whopping 13 shots behind 54-hole leader Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler is three rounds into his first stroke play event on Quail Hollow, and McIlroy has won the course four times. As a result, the difference in their scores has been a huge surprise.

As we move into Round 4, Alex Noren is three shots behind Scheffler in second place. Leaders Jhonattan Vegas, who is 18 and 36 holes ahead, Jon Rahm, Si Woo Kim, Tony Finau, Bryson DeChambeau, Keegan Bradley, and Matt Fitzpatrick are the other prominent players in the race. Within six shots of Scheffler, that entire group is in the top ten. They will all need to use different strategies to exert some pressure on the two-time green jacket winner. View the complete schedule of Round 4 tee times.

Scheffler is 9 of 15 in his career when faced with such opportunities, going 2 for 2 at major championships. He has also turned five consecutive 54-hole leads into victories on the PGA Tour. Scottie will travel to Charlotte on Sunday with the chance to add that extra feather to his cap in the second leg of the career grand slam.
